More Dragon Age spoilers and FTM goodness.

I absolutely adore the DA series. There are definitely problematic themes, but they are working on it. Below is an article that one of the developers wrote about Krem, the FTM second in command of a unit you interact with.

There are some spoilers, I don’t mind it but I want to warn you all in case you do mind. I will give you feedback on the game itself when I start my LP.

Candle: A Retraction

A friend of mine started posting “candles” on Facebook. Since most stories on Facebook were depressing (well except the cat stories) he wanted to add to the positive feelings. I figured I would steal this idea for here as well.

In a world today filled with violence and unacceptance of FTM, I was happy to see a great article in People magazine entitled:

Parents Write Newspaper Birth Announcement to Show Acceptance of Teen Transgender Son.

http://www.people.com/article/transgender-teen-parents-write-birth-announcement-retraction-australia-kai-bogert

The article goes on to explain how the parents of this young man retracted the birth announcement from 20 years ago, saying they had made a mistake and had announced a girl, but in fact it was a boy.

I haven’t seen this kind of acceptance as common yet. I am hoping it is a sign of things to come. Especially since Australia isn’t known for being the most forward thinking society for LGBTA.

I realize it isn’t a deep post today, but so often what I want to talk about are the problems, while today there was an example of the good that is out there. This made me really happy to read this morning. Hopefully I can find more like this.

This could be great!

I have a lot of hobbies, one of them includes running a couple of youtube channels. The first is my video game let’s play channel, and the second is my “Things You Should Know” channel where right now I have a series of videos about the American Civil War battles, and about accounting.

While prepping for my next series of video game let’s plays I found a short clip of the next game, Dragon Age Inquisition. It shows off that DA handles trans issues. Now from my understanding it doesn’t actually call anyone trans, but it handles someone born with one body, who is actually the other gender, and in fact they are accepted.

I haven’t played yet, but the clip seems like they handle it with the best way I have seen yet. I am sure there might be small issues, but honestly for a major video game franchise to even address it like this, let alone not as a joke has my hopes very high for the future.

I will be starting this series of let’s plays before Christmas, I will keep you all informed on how it is actually handled in game. I have embedded the video clip below.

I will be back soon with more posts, I have a large list of stuff I want to talk about, now just got to get the time.

Who is that?

Earlier this week I started pulling together things I wanted to blog about here. So I went over some old videos of mine, and some of those by Jello and other people. That is when I was caught off guard by how effective testosterone is.

I was looking through Jello’s old videos and found his first transition video. What surprised me was how he looked and how he sounded. I have totally forgotten that voice (until I heard it, then it hit me) and I forgot the changes.

Here is that video:

Here is his most latest video (and he is working on a new one now, he is even deeper voiced and masculine looking).

I was shocked by it actually. The voice especially is what does it. It did sort of hit me like I was watching a video of someone gone, but it also made me happy to see how far he has come.

I just wanted to quickly share here about that. How proud I am of him. While the most recent video is from almost three months ago (and doesn’t quit do him justice) he has certainly gone a long way. He passes pretty much 95% of the time. Once we get him set up for top surgery it will be 100%.

Oh and I didn’t want to forget to give you his channel again:

Passing and Sexism

Jello's 2012 Kia. He was so excited to get it.

Jello’s 2012 Kia. He was so excited to get it.

Today we had to buy a certified Kia for Jello. He got a temp job and needs to get to it. While we were getting the car however, an awkward situation arose.

We were in the car when the salesman (a young kid) was talking about taking other people out on test drives. Jello was driving, he was in the passenger seat and I was in the back. The guy started joking that when he takes women out driving how horrible they were as drivers.

This absolutely horrified me. I have never thought differently about a woman driving, and I don’t understand why stupid assholes think that way. This is probably due to Jello being the first person who could drive decently in our group of friends when I was a teen. Jay and Warren, the other people who drove cars were absolutely horrible drivers, but Jello was always good (and at the time presenting as a woman), so maybe I never made that sexist connection.

Jello and I met eyes in the rear-view mirror. It was incredibly misogynistic/sexist and we were both horrified by that. On the other hand, it meant that Jello had passed 100% in close proximity with the guy. This pleased me greatly, I know he has been passing more and more. Now if we can only get his top surgery.

So it ended up being an incredibly awkward, but rewarding situation. I feel torn about it, both unhappy with the sexist comments, but overjoyed for Jello.

OkCupid Wha?

Just a brief bit of background, Jello and I have been on and off poly for most of our marriage. I haven’t found anyone I really want to split my time with him with, but it is always a possibility. Jello has been more interested in finding me someone lately, since I do like the ladies, and he isn’t a lady, but nothing has sparked my interest yet.

However, barring all of that, I do keep an OKCupid profile. I have met friends on OKC, I have several people who chat with me on it (in a non-sexual/dating way) and I am totally out about being married to a transguy on OKC,  (I am always proud of Jello). However today I got the most bizarre request.

It started out like this:

wtf-okcupidI was a little confused for a moment. I had thought maybe my old profile was still active from before Jello’s transition, but that was not the case.

Did he even read my profile?

I was angry at first that he referred to Jello as my wife. The disrespect of either not reading my profile, or worse yet not respecting my husband. I was speechless for a short time.

I was then struck with the sheer audacity, assholishness, and fuckery of someone asking another person for pictures of their spouse. Nowhere in my profile do I say we are looking for a third, or that he is asking for a partner himself (Jello). At what point does a spouse or partner offer up pictures of their S.O. to a random stranger on the internet.

I responded that he obviously had failed any sort of reading comprehension and that I had a husband.

It isn’t over… Within ten minutes of my response he dug deeper:

wtf-okcupid2First the idea that he was direspectful to me seemed even more ludicrous. My husband (or as he thought of it, my wife) isn’t my property. He should be apologizing to Jello through me, or even better both of us.

I was considering responding when 3 minutes later he asked for pictures of Jello… WTF!?!?!

Why would anyone follow up on that except with straight cis-gendered privilege. I was shocked the most by that last comment. I haven’t responded, but I think I have an EXTREMELY TINY glimpse of what a woman goes through on OKC.

I gave Jello a copy of these images (unredacted). He is busy posting it to http://straightwhiteboystexting.tumblr.com. There is a huge backlog, so not sure when it will appear, but it was funny.

Jello’s response to all of this, other than to call the person an idiot, was if he was looking, he would be on OKC (which he isn’t).

Sunday Surprise

Yesterday was a surprise to me, a good surprise. Jello and I ended up going to Red Robin to grab a couple burgers and beer. We showed up and there was a line of three other groups waiting to be seated.

Jello put our name on the list, and we saw we were the last in line. This was ok, we understand that Red Robin gets packed and we didn’t have other plans.

A couple minutes later two servers started walking over, a tiny young lady and a slightly less young, taller guy. The guy was obviously LGBTA friendly. He smiled at Jello and I and directed the lady server to seat us first.

We got some nasty looks from other customers as we were seated. The gentleman was our server and was very talkative, and responsive to anything we wanted. As we left, Jello and I talked and both agreed that the gentleman picked us out because we are a gay couple and seated us first.

It is the first time I have ever experienced a positive privilege status for being in a same-sex marriage. There were no definitive facts that the server himself was gay, but I would bet money on it. It was kind of nice to be seen by one of our own (in the LGBTA broader group).

I just thought I would share that.

Atlanta Observations 1

I'm HersThe second week at my new job, I had to travel down to Atlanta Georgia in August for a week of “onboarding” training. I spent the week down there in a large city that was perhaps the most anti-LGBTA that I have ever seen.

I have never really traveled much outside the Pacific NW, and I never traveled as a man in a gay marriage. My trip to Atlanta was eye-opening. Not only with the anti-LGBTA, but with the misogyny that was everywhere. I will talk a lot about it here on this website.

I figured today I would talk about one of the many things that creeped me out about Atlanta. I would like to first tell everyone that yes I know there are accepting parts in Atlanta of LGBT, there are unaccepting parts here in Seattle. However, I was not impressed with what I saw (and combined with the red state ideas that a lot of people have down there) it really was a turn off.

I was walking around the Perimeter Mall in Atlanta and saw a shirt kiosk on the bottom level. I saw the “I’m Her’s, He’s Mine” shirt and thought maybe they had one that said something like “I’m His, He’s mine” type of thing. It was a momentary lapse in judgment when I blurted it out to the shop owner.

The owner stared at me for thirty seconds, it was like time slowed to nothing. He started having small shakes and his face just went red. He stammered for a few more seconds then screamed at me something along the lines of “That is blasphemy!”. His voice echoed down the mall, people just turned and stared. He was still visibly shaking but he must have realized the commotion because his voice immediately went down to a low tone.

I was a little stunned, but by this time I realized I wasn’t in Seattle area. Don’t get me wrong, people say this shit in Seattle, but quietly and not in such a public display usually. I had backed up a little, when he muttered something about going to hell and his glare kept up.

I pulled out my camera and took a picture of the shirts, I almost took a picture of him, but when I turned and looked at him I stopped. I don’t know why, but his pudgy little red face was all of a sudden the funniest thing I had seen in years. I laughed so hard I almost ended up puking. He looked surprised and even a bit embarrassed.

I ended up walking away laughing, with the guy looking perplexed. I admit, part of me walked away because there were some other glares and I wasn’t sure if I was going to get my butt kicked. However, the stupidity and ignorance was so large that I couldn’t stop laughing until the hotel van picked me up.

Don’t worry, there are a lot more incidents to talk about (and I go back for two weeks in mid-October and we can see how it goes there).

Transition Pictures

Comparision
This is a comparison of Jello 6 months before he began Testosterone and 10 months (September 21, 2014) after. I love him just as much now as I did back then. Oh and please note both of these photos are early Sunday mornings.

First Time

iPhone Love

Someone is excited about their new iPhone.

Jello got hit on by a guy for the first time tonight. We went to Red Robin in order to celebrate getting iPhones. I left for the bathroom and as I came out I noticed the bartender was chummy with my hubby.

Not to worry, I am not jealous and we are a poly couple so no worries there. However, I knew he wasn’t interested anyways. The funny part is that Wolsey was pretty excited looking for the rest of dinner.

After we left Wolsey explained the guy leaned over and was hitting on him. This is the first time that Wolsey has been hit on as a guy, by another guy. It was a first for him, and I thought I would report it here.
