I’ve been to a half-dozen of the NYC Eric Garner demonstrations – it is very exciting to see a wide range of people in the streets – this weekend I made a sign that says Black Lives Matter, and underneath lists 10 trans women of color who were murdered in the US in 2014. I ran into a handful of people who got the sign right away, and who were thankful to have the issue raised, since police violence against transgender folk and police indifference to violence against transgender folk are generally not addressed (particularly outside the LGBT community). I’m lucky to live in NYC and have an obvious way to plug in. But I appreciate everyone writing and linking about it.
